The leadership of Capstone Alliance is entirely composed of people like you: interested, motivated members of the UA community. All Executive Committee positions are open to LGBTQIA faculty, staff, graduate students and allies. The following positions are filled each year during elections held at the end of the spring semester, but it’s never too early to let us know you’re interested! Officer Descriptions
“Official Duties” are those explicitly stated in the Bylaws. “Additional duties” are those commonly executed by the officers.
President
Official Duties (from bylaws):
- Preside over all organizational and Board meetings.
- Represent the organization at public events.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees, except the nominating committee.
- Perform all other duties inherent to the office.
- Vote only in case of a tie.
*At the end of their term, Presidents may stand for election to any of the officer positions. Graduate students are not eligible.
President-Elect
Official Duties (from bylaws):
- Help the President with his/her duties.
- Serve as President in the President’s absence.
*Graduate students are not eligible for this position.
Secretary
Official Duties (from bylaws):
- Act as Secretary at all organizational and officer meetings.
- Keep the minutes of all meetings and distribute them to the membership.
- Notify the membership of the time and place of meetings.
- Maintain the files of the organization.
- Perform all other duties customarily inherent in the office.
Treasurer
Official Duties (from bylaws):
- Receive all dues and contributions to the organization.
- Report on the financial status of Capstone Alliance at regular meetings.
- Pay all bills of the organization.
- Maintain the membership roster, including categories of membership.
- Perform all duties customarily inherent in the office.
Ambassador(s)
Official Duties (from bylaws):
- Focus on promoting CA to relevant entities on campus for the purpose of assisting in faculty, staff, and graduate student recruiting and relocation.
- Fielding questions from faculty, staff, or graduate students moving to Tuscaloosa.
- Supporting the transition of new faculty, staff, and graduate students to life at UA.
- Maintaining contact with all department chairs, division heads, Deans, directors, etc.
- Working with other officers to design print materials for new faculty orientation, new GTA orientation, and other such events.
*The Ambassador may form an ad-hoc committee, as needed, to best serve graduate student, faculty, and staff needs.
