Capstone Alliance is funded almost exclusively from member dues. These funds enable us to help support activities on campus and in our community such as Druid City Pridefest, Bal Masque, the Capstone Alliance Emergency Fund, the Elliot Jackson Jones Memorial Scholarship, flyers welcoming new LGBTQ+ faculty and staff, and more. We also accept outright donations. We are not a registered 501.c.3 organization.
Elliot Jackson Jones Scholarship
Donations can be made directly to the Elliot Jackson Jones Memorial Alumni Scholarship, awarded by Capstone Alliance and the UA LGBTQ Alumni Association each year to a student working to improve the lives and welfare of LGBTQ+ persons at UA, in Alabama, or more broadly. The annual scholarship is worth $1000 and is currently funded through donations. We have a goal of endowing the scholarship and your support would go a long way towards meeting that goal. Elliot Jackson Jones founded the first gay-straight alliance at the university in 1983, bringing gay rights to the Capstone for the first time. He passed away as a young man due to complications from HIV/AIDS and cancer. His memory and legacy live on in this scholarship, as well as a scores of queer youth activists who have graced this campus since his brave stand.
